The key to successful relationships is effective communications… The key to effective communications is understanding.

This short phrase got me thinking about effective communication in todays environment of mis-understanding. What I mean is that as the world gets smaller (global community) we are communicating and building relationships with people from many different lands, languages and cultures. If we could just stop and listen, I mean really listen to what someone is saying, maybe we’ll get a hold of enough of their message to start creating that understanding that is necessary to build and develop the relationships we all need in our lives.

What we need is a communications tool that provides a framework of understanding, that helps us facilitate effective communications and that helps to build successful relationships.

The key is finding a tool that is easy to use, simple to apply and effective! One we can use everyday without having to think about it or drag out the computer or a 150 page book.

There is such a tool, in fact there’s a couple of them but from what I’ve seen (and I’ve tried them all) there is one tool that stands head and shoulders above the rest… FACE Communication Styles. With some basic training in FACE which only takes one hour, you can start to discover peoples communication styles and in a very short time you can accurately work out someones communication style in just two questions.

Imagine just how much easier and better our relationship building will be if we know how to communicate with someone… in their own communication style!

Yes it’s that simple. There is one safe and easy way to overcome your fear of talking to potential clients, speaking in front of people and getting your message out there to the people you want to connect with!I have been working with a number of people who wanted some help in this area. I would like to share this technique with anyone who may have fears of getting out there!

The way we (including me) have worked on these fears is to network. Yes, it’s that simple… just network. Join network groups with people you know and with groups you don’t know. Meetup is one of the best networking groups around and you can bet there’s one or several, near you! Go to www.meetup.com and start looking for a group in your area.

The thing here is that you can attend day time meetings, evening meetings and other events through these networks. You can start by going with someone you know and start to talk with people just like you. People will ask what you do and you can start to practice your introduction or elevator speech, keep it short and simple and try different versions at different meetings.

Try to go to at least one network meeting every week. They are normally one hour, you can stay for 30 minutes if that’s works best for you. Soon you will start to build and develop friendships and relationships with other business people who will want to use/buy your products/services or can recommend you to someone they know can use your products/services.

The best thing here is you don’t have to be in a hurry, take your time but you do have to be consistent! And if you’re not sure about one group no problem.. just try another one. In fact try several and belong to more than one group. What a great way to get out there and start building your brand!

What’s your benefit? Easy… you will soon overcome any fears of taking to people you don’t know and you’ll get lots of practice telling people what it is you do!

If you would like to have a chat with me about this technique or if you have a question just contact me (Brian) at: brian@facecommunicationstyles.com and I would be happy to help!

One of the most asked questions is: how many hours a day do I have to do Social Media Marketing for my on-line business?

My first thought about this question is: this question is asked like Social Media is a Social Disease.Okay that might be over-stating the question a bit but to a Social Media type of person it’s a bit “out there”.

When we’re (you and me) running our own business… be it on-line or off-line there’s a certain amount of “WORK” required to accomplish the “mission”. Remember that our “mission” is to attract potential clients that will convert to customers, right?

If your Social Media Marketing take several hours a day and your “other” business work combined is still your normal eight hours a day… what does it matter? Meaning… if you do 1, 2, or 5 hours a day of Social Media Marketing… isn’t that the same as doing work?

So what I’m saying here is: there is no hard and fast rule as long as your Social Media work is to generate business. If you’re doing too many SMM hours and your “better half” is starting to kick up a bit of noise then we need to chat ( Social Media Coaching), but if you’re spending a few hours a day or several hours a day doing Social Media to generate business then that’s okay…

Remember… the focus is to generate business.

From a distance…

Brian

Over the last several months and many, many discussions in groups about Social Media Marketing including the use of Twitter, I have discovered a very interesting fact. Some of you may already know this but sometimes I can be a little slow to pick up on trends too. Like my clients, I am always on a learning curve to understand and use these very powerful Social Media channels and tools, like Twitter.Okay back to the discovery… I often wondered why I would get tweet after Tweet after Tweet from some people I was following. Sometimes this was so annoying that I would stop following someone… even if I really was interested in what they had to say. I always thought that they were just spamming their Tweets… okay I’m sure some people do this too but not everyone.

What I have found out is that maybe… just maybe they were tweeting so often because their tweet was being moved off the page so fast that many people didn’t even get a chance to read it. Maybe some people are re-tweeting so often because their followers are losing their messages in the piles of messages they are receiving, before anyone even gets a chance to read it!

I have been doing some tweets for one of my clients, they have over 2000 followers, cool heaps of potential business there right? Wrong, I noticed that even on my clients Twitter the posted message was moving off the page so quick that with just a second click of the mouse the message was several pages back in history! I watched this for a couple of messages and did some re-tweets of my own message and sometimes there could be another 200+ tweets within minutes.

Why didn’t I see this before… simple I only have 60+ followers and I’m following less than this, so the action on my Twitter is at a much slower pace.

So is more better? My experience says no it’s not. What’s the solution, if you’re really wanting to connect with people on twitter as a business tool then you should consider these steps in deciding who you follow and who you allow to follow you:

Are they a person or Company you want to follow

Do they provide interesting information

Do they follow an excessive number of people (new idea)

Do they have an excessive number of people following them (new idea) and

Are you just clogging up each others Twitter in-box or really value adding to each others business.

Of course this doesn’t apply to those that use Twitter as a communications tools…

I would like some feedback and thoughts on this information please… whats you’re experience?

Is there any “Free Range“ Webinar presenters out there? Lately most of the webinars I have been attending seem to have the same old format. As sales and marketing types is the best we can do is to copy each other? The story-line and format these days just seems to be the same ol’ banter. It goes something like this…

I was down and out

I had $2 left in the bank and bills of $30,000 due tomorrow at 12 noon

I’ve been sleeping at my brothers house, sharing the laundry floor with his dog

Insert pictures here, of me sleeping with the dog on on the laundry floor

Then it came to me (I’m a loser), no seriously… it all made sense… with this one idea I’ve had for the last 13 months I can create wealth over-night and pay off all my bills

The next day I had all my bills paid and enough left over to buy the yellow Ferrari I’ve always dreamed of and take my new wife on a world cruise

Again insert pictures to prove this success… us on top of Everest, walking the Great Wall of China and standing on top of one of the Pyramids of Egypt and don’t forget the romantic beach-side candle lit dinner on beautiful Whitehaven beach and

You too can have all this and more! (sorry I forgot to insert the picture of the yellow Ferrari)

And now I’m going to share this fantastic idea with you but this is a one time deal and is limited to either the first 15 takers or all subscriptions end at 5 pm today EST and at 5:15 I’m going to burn the documents and this idea will be dead forever… so if you don’t act now you’re really going to look silly!

Okay I think you have to point I’m trying to make.

So my question is (and no it’s not, am I a jerk? I’m sure some of you are wondering about that)… is anyone (other than the great people at Hubspot) actually being creative in dialogue, content and presentation? Or am I just signing up for all the wrong Webinars?

Why doesn’t someone just introduce themselves and/or their company, do their presentation, toss in a few bits about their products and/or services and end with a reasonable amount of time for Q&A’s?

Please don’t get me wrong I’m not directing any of this towards or at anyone who really is doing it tough these days and I know that many people are, I am only talking about the same old banter that we seem to hear way to often at the beginning of Webinars.

So if you are really doing it tough and would like some “free” help to get your business going in the right direction then please send me an email and I will do my best to see what I can do to help you. You can use the form on this website or send an email to: reception@kaojaicoaching.com

Remember to “Pay it Forward”

Take-care…

Brian

One of the tools we use for ourselves as well as our clients is project/client management software. There are several available and after looking at and testing several of them we decided on BaseCamp.BaseCamp give Kaojai Coaching the hands-on approach we like to have with our clients. When our clients log onto their account the first page is an overview of messages, To-Do lists, milestones/goals, files and documents. All our work with each client is done from BaseCamp. We don’t use email as the primary communications tool. The message section of BaseCamp is just like email with the added advantage of having all messages pertaining to a client or a clients project are all in one place.

This is the perfect tool for accountability for us and for our clients. All tasks go on the To-Do list section and then issued to the person responsible to complete the task. Once a task is complete it is then marked completed and stored at the bottom of the list.

There are two special features that I really like… the first is the live chat facility! Our clients can chat with us at any time using the chat tab. We create a chat-room just for them for ease of use. And the other special feature for Kaojai is the security. BaseCamp is very secure with using and transferring documents and their backup system ensures that nothing is lost should our computers or our clients computers lose data or a hard drive.

When you work with Kaojai Coaching we help you set and manage your goals and the tasks or steps to reach these goals.

If you think this is impressive you should see the program my VPA uses! It’s made by the same people that make BaseCamp. My VPA keeps my schedule and other daily and weekly tasks up to date and it takes very little of my time to manage my schedule now. My VPA “Gene” does it all!

If you want more information regarding this article please send me an email and I will do my best to help you.

Take care… Coach Brian

Kaojai Coaching is like any other business… I’m too busy to take care of the day to day tasks in my business. Last month I started searching for a service that could help me manage my time and take over some of the day to day tasks that I really couldn’t be bothered doing. I didn’t want to hire a full time or part time secretary as that’s too costly. What I found was a number of Virtual Personal Assistant businesses. After researching a few of them I selected and I signed up with “Your VPA“.I can recommend this service to any of my clients and friends. In fact I have recommend Your VPA to all of my clients who like me are having trouble with time management.

Have a look at their website: Your VPA

One of the questions I get asked the most is: Is there a way to do all this Social Media Marketing stuff and not get bogged down with having to spend most of my waking hours managing my Twitter, Blog and Facebook?I found a great tool for automating some of the things we do on Twitter manually. The free version lets you do most things on Twitter (for free) to help improve your Twitter applications and the paid version (the one I signed up for) lets you do so much more with Twitter, including Facebook and Blog tools!

This is a fantastic tool for improving and managing your Social Media Marketing tasks. If you want some help in getting this program working for you just send me an email at: b.mccarthy@kaojaicoaching.com and I will be happy to assist you!

Here’s the link to the tool! Social Media Management Tool

Or at least that’s the message some people/businesses are peddling.

Let me put it this way… the story goes like this right?

I have just spent the last 12 months creating an on-line system that guarantees results. I have decided to list this special offer for a one time chance for you to jump on board! In the last month I have made over $150,000 and now I am going to share my secrets with you! The best part of this deal is that it’s only going to cost you $49.95 to learn these same secrets that I used to make $150,000 and blah blah blah… I think you get the message!Really if I had a system to make $150,000 per month or even $15,000 per month “guaranteed” and there’s room for thousands of people to do this… yeah right pull the other one, do you think I would share it with anyone and even if I was compelled to help you make millions each year from “my new system” do you honestly believe that I would sell it for $49.95?

Really the golden rule applies here… if it sounds to good to be true then it probably is!

Wake Up! It was only a dream…

As a Business Consultative Coach one of the main questions I get asked is this: how do I manage my inbound emails?

A pattern I started to see with my own emails was the frequency I was receiving emails from the people I had to give my email address to to receive their free eBook, newsletter or other free product/s download. In some cases I was receiving emails a couple times a day and in other cases at least once a day.

Another problem area was working my way through my business emails, family emails and emails from friends! Now don’t get me wrong… I love getting eBooks and newsletters, there’s some really good and useful information in a lot of these, not all… some are full of junk too! We all know what’s going to happen once we give someone our email address… we’re GOING to get emails from them with a view of selling us their “paid for” services.

Most of these emails have an opt-out link at the bottom of them, but remember the original question was… how to manage “inbound emails”?

So what’s the answer? What’s the big secret? How does Coach Brian do it?

Have separate email accounts for each group!

If you have your website hosted, the hosting company usually provides you with the option to have more than one email account. Even if you use Gmail or an online service like that, you can just set up separate accounts for each group by using unique names for each group. Below is a sample of what I’m talking about:

Business emails: reception@blahblah.com or maybe: sales@blahblah.com

Personal emails: me@blahblah.com (this can be broken down further to a separate account for family and one for friends)

Newsletters (that you want to keep): newsletters@blahblah.com

Free downloads: downloads@blahblah.com

So right now you might be thinking… I am still getting all these emails and now I have more than one email account to check. It sounds to me like things just got worse not better!

Simple… you set up a schedule to check emails:

you check business and personal emails daily (you can even leave these email accounts open if you’re on line all day like me, hey this is my business so it’s like having my place of business open during working hours right?)

you might check newsletter emails once a week or as your time allows and

you check the free download emails only when you actually give that email address for a free download.

Okay now for those of you that use the email opt-in technique for getting emails from potential clients might be wondering how Coach Brian does it (that is… get potential clients)? I will write about that soon or if you would like to know more NOW, then please contact me via Skype at: kaojai.au (if I am on-line at Skype I am available or my business is open for business!, if I don’t respond then please leave a message I will get back to you!) or you can email me at: reception@kaojaicoaching.com

Take care and remember to: ”Pay it Forward”

Coach Brian
